Evan Heitman

Founder, Superintendent

I have 21 years of experience in the construction industry with a proven track record of excellence building projects for institutional clients. My education as an Architectural Technologist coupled with 15 years of building experience allows me to achieve the intent of the consultant team’s specification effectively in a practical manner on site. I understand the importance of good client, trade, and in-house forces collaboration, and using a firm but fair approach to resolve issues and conflicts which has allowed for professional relationships to be built on mutual respect.

Darci McCue

Human Resources Consultant

I have been working to help develop strong foundational business practices and HR policies within businesses for much of my adult career, with a major focus on story telling and brand development.  When I joined Mode in 2021, my focus was on business development, and now that the foundation for the company is strong and the brand is vibrant, my focus is consulting on HR practices.  It is with great pleasure to continue to support the Mode team in a way that fits the vision that Evan has laid out.

John Hughes

Construction Manager

I have been in the construction industry for 24 years. My background is in timber construction, framing, finishing carpentry, and most recently, exclusive general contracting as a preferred contractor for many of southern Vancouver Island’s most sought after interior designers.  I am the owner of Craft Custom Carpentry, and have recently joined Mode’s team to oversee their operations on central Vancouver Island.

James McCaul

Site Foreman

I came to Mode in 2017 after working primarily in residential framing and concrete. Since then I have continued to evolve into a lead carpenter and Site Foreman. I now have 10 years combined experience with the last 4 focused on commercial and institutional work. My skill set has grown to include finishing carpentry and installation of millwork, heavy timber construction and architectural concrete.  I’m experienced in interpreting blueprints to execute the intent of the architect and engineers and feel confident in leading a team of carpenters and laborers to construct as per plans, on time and without re-work.

Samuel Dick

Carpenter

I have been working with Mode for the last year and came with a wide range of experience in many trades.  I am a skilled carpenter and currently, James’ right hand.   I’m also able to fix and maintain tooling and machinery, have experience in commercial roofing and also welding. My greatest asset is the ability to think outside the box with a creative mindset. This allows me to execute complex tasks in unique ways that some would not otherwise think of.

COLE MARCELLUS-SCHLESE

APPRENTICE Carpenter

I joined the mode team in the spring of 2024 as a first year apprentice carpenter on the Whitehorse General Hospital – Mental Wellness Unit Project. They have given me the opportunity to learn the trade and process of institutional construction from the ground up. I am learning about collaborative construction conducted by professionals with a strong safety culture. I appreciate the support of my team, and the office so far.
